Skagit County is located in Northwest Washington between the ocean waters of the Puget Sound and the Cascade Mountains. Skagit County maintains a relaxed, small-city atmosphere with a population of just over 100,000. Mount Vernon is the biggest city with a population of approx. 27,700. Skagit County is about one hour north of
Seattle, 30 minutes south of
Bellingham and one hour south of the Canadian border.

Farming is an important part of Skagit County's economy which is best known for its
tulip bulb industry. Washington Bulb Company is headquartered here and is the nation's largest producer of tulip, daffodil and iris bulbs. During the month of April, many tourists come to Skagit Valley to see the beautiful tulip fields and take part in the annual Tulip Festival.
Other annual events in the area include the Skagit County Fair in Mount Vernon,
Loggerodeo 4th of July Celebration in Sedro-Woolley and the Skagit Valley
Festival of Family Farms in October. Popular Anacortes events include the
Arts Festival, Waterfront Festival and Jazz Festival while La Conner features a Summer Street Festival, Classic Yacht and Car Show and Art's Alive! Festival. Burlington events include Berry Dairy Days in June and a Harvest Festival in October. The annual Skagit River Shakespeare Festival and the Skagit Valley
Highland Games and Celtic Festival take place in Mount Vernon's Edgewater Park.
